About The Center

The Center Logo

Founded in 1981 as a division of the City of Iowa City, the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center offers a venue for local seniors to take classes, stay fit, volunteer and socialize in an open, welcoming environment. At The Center, older adults can choose from hundreds of fun activities that provide opportunities to cultivate strong friendships and enjoy every stage of life.

The Center’s Impact Adds Up

During Fiscal Year 2017, The Center had:

  • 1,554 members, 9.1% on low-income scholarships
  • 110,872 total visits from participants of all ages
  • 10,226 Center-sponsored activities
  • 628 volunteers gave 26,650 hours of service
