Become a Volunteer

Volunteering with Friends of The Center provides you with engaging opportunities to strengthen The Center and its services, enrich the lives of our members and contribute to the vitality of our community as a whole.

Volunteer for Friends of The Center

Our Board of Directors welcomes those interested in assisting with the important work of fundraising in support of the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center. The board guides the work of these committees:

  • Marketing and Events Committee
  • Planned and Major Gifts Committee
  • Annual Fund Committee

While we welcome those with fundraising, event planning and marketing experience, these skills are not required. All we ask is your willingness to learn, have fun and work as a team in strengthening community support for The Center and its mission to cultivate lifelong wellness, friendships and education! Learn about Friends of The Center’s volunteer needs — please contact us today.

Volunteer for The Center

We welcome adults of all ages to explore the many fun and rewarding volunteer roles at The Center. For example, those who are skilled with technology and computers can become mentors to members who need a helping hand with their smart phones, tablets and computers. Subject matter experts may wish to share their knowledge by teaching a class. To find out more about The Center’s volunteer programs and current opportunities, Learn More.

Volunteering Is Inspiring

“While I appreciate receiving this [volunteer] award, it is I who should be awarding The Center for providing the opportunity for me to do what I love to bring people together to discuss issues of the heart and mind.

“The Center has inspired my life in retirement in ways I never imagined and given me new meaning and purpose. Not only to the staff, but also to the participants in my classes do I return this sentiment, because you have no idea what joy and meaning you provide in our communal search for meaning."
