Friends website makes its debut

After more than a year of planning, construction and content creation, a brand-new website for Friends of The Center is online and open for business at As Senior Center Coordinator and Friends Board of Directors secretary/treasurer Linda Kopping explains, the new site is designed to serve multiple functions.

“As an agency of the City of Iowa City, the Senior Center relies on the City government website to share information about Center events, programming and other information,” she says. “We are grateful for that resource; however, Friends of The Center is a separate nonprofit organization whose sole mission is to encourage private support for The Center, and we needed a separate website for that purpose.

“The new site also gives us greater ability to showcase The Center itself,” she continues, “and to draw a more direct connection between the quality of our services and charitable donations from members and friends.”

Visitors to the Friends website will be able to learn about the importance of philanthropy and how private gifts are used, read stories about donors and the impact of their support, and make secure online donations.

In addition, the new site contains a section about The Center and its programs and services, including a calendar of events that is searchable by date, topic and type of programming.

Kopping hopes visitors will take time to fully explore the new website. “Center staff have spent many hours putting the new site together, but the real proof of its effectiveness will come through user feedback,” she says. “We expect the site to be a work in progress for the next few months and we welcome suggestions for improvement.”
